The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. The incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research. Core job functions include understanding and interpreting research protocols and procedures, participating in the publication of significant results, maintaining an overview of relevant research findings, ensuring all research is undertaken according to good research practice, keeping abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research, collecting, preparing, analyzing, dissecting, and evaluating specimens or tissue cultures, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, performing a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies, performing calculations to complete research test results, collecting data, and performing statistical analysis of laboratory results, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets. The role requires carrying out independent research experiments under the scientific guidance of the PI or senior lab members, assisting with other lab members’ research as directed by the PI, managing and supervising the acquisition, processing, storage, accountability, shipping, and documentation of biological specimens, reading and understanding study protocols and SOPs, maintaining accurate accountability records and storage of specimens, ensuring all laboratory source documents are completed accurately, proper shipping and inventory of samples, ordering laboratory supplies, attending sponsor meetings and training groups, keeping detailed notebooks and records of all scientific experiments, and presenting research results in lab meetings. Education required is a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. No prior experience is required but prior lab experience is preferred. Knowledge of scientific terminology, ability to follow oral and written instructions, excellent communication skills, data recording, organizational skills, and being detail oriented with a willingness to learn and work independently while being a team player are essential.
