National Grid is hiring an Associate Distribution Engineer for our Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) department within a reasonable commute of a National Grid location in New York State

Job Purpose

The Associate Distribution Engineer in Distribution Planning & Asset Management will work with other engineers to develop recommendations for required modifications and additions to sub-transmission and distribution facilities to enhance the resiliency of the system to adverse weather events and to modernize the grid in a fashion to meet forecasted capacity requirements and expanding customer service quality expectations in an economic manner that optimizes the use of existing systems and minimizes environmental concerns.

Key Accountabilities
  • System Planning & Asset Management : Assist in strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems to enhance resilience and meet capacity requirements.
  • Customer Support : Aid in studies and ensure compliance for customer and distributed generation interconnections, offering technical support to customer groups.
  • Reliability Performance : Track and enhance regional distribution and sub-transmission reliability, promoting actions for improvement.
  • Collaboration : Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, deployment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement : Proactively identify and implement changes to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering processes.
  • Problem Solving : Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while maintaining strong communication with stakeholders
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
  • Experience building and maintaining a network of relationships, with both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Licensure : Plans to obtain Engineer in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are preferred.
  • Technical Skills : Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Other Requirements : Valid driver's license.

Salary:

Upstate NY: $87,000 - $ 102,000

Downstate NY: $105,000 - $ 123,000

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
