We are currently seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration Technician who thrives in a collaborative, startup environment. Responsibilities:

• Ensure machinery and mechanical equipment operation by performing preventive maintenance according to diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems safely, adhering strictly to regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
• Conduct regular inspection rounds, monitor equipment performance, and accurately document operational data and logs.
• Rigorously adhere to documenting preventive maintenance (PMs) and ensure compliance with daily logs and maintenance records.
• Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) and repairs on refrigeration equipment including air compressors, HVAC units, cooling coils, boilers/steam systems, and potable water systems.
• Identify mechanical issues by closely observing equipment performance and promptly resolving problems.
• Maintain and care for building infrastructure, refrigeration systems, and racking systems.
• Establish rapport with management and personnel to anticipate and identify current and future maintenance needs.
• Collaborate proactively with management to resolve maintenance issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment by rigorously following safety protocols, OSHA, and internal policies.
• Actively participate in staff and customer meetings, as needed.
• Initiate actions to prevent non-conformities related to product, processes, and quality systems.
• Record and report issues relating to product, processes, or quality, and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
• Adhere to posted security procedures consistently while onsite.
• Participate in OSHA Safety, SQF, and continuous educational training.
• Obtain certifications for Lock-Out/Tag Out, Fall Protection, and Confined Space Entry.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience working with industrial/commercial ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration systems.
• Familiarity with PSM (Process Safety Management) and RMP (Risk Management Plan) compliance standards.
• Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining compressors, evaporators, condensers, and control systems.
• Solid knowledge of IIAR standards and ammonia safety protocols.
• Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience with demonstrated automated equipment troubleshooting.
• Preferred: 3-5 years warehouse maintenance experience.
• Current RETA certifications: CARO (Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator) and CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator).
• Proficiency with general hand and power tools.
• Previous residential maintenance experience beneficial.
• Comprehensive understanding of safety practices and OSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently bend and lift up to 50 lbs., occasionally lift up to 70 lbs. with assistance.
• Stand and walk extensively during shifts.
• Use hands proficiently to handle tools, controls, and equipment.
• Effectively operate scanners, tablets, radios, phones, and warehouse machinery.
• Capable of lifting overhead and working in temperature ranges of +50°F to -30°F.
• Able and willing to use SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and APR (air-purifying respirators).

Additional Requirements:

• Ability and willingness to work overtime with minimal notice as operational demands dictate.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Strong arithmetic skills, reading comprehension, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions and company policies.
• A proactive self-starter capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing stress and productivity requirements.
• Maintain professionalism in appearance and communication at all times.
